Inventor 3D importing problem...
« on: July 28, 2011, 04:06:45 am »
Hi,
To start to learn 3D machining, I first designed a 3D object in Inventor and then exported as STL, and then got it into CamBam.

Sadly, the object in CamBam looks so dark that hardly seen.
1. I imported the same object into Meshlab, it looks ok, easily seen
2. As long as I know, colors are not saved in STL file type. so I tried to export dxf, but then I lost 3D form

Could anybody please help me, let me know how I can turn on light inside CamBam for better view please?
(the question stated on Meshlab image is already solved).

I attach the images, please have a look.

There is a VBScript here which will invert faces of of selected meshes in CamBam...

http://www.cambam.info/ref/script.invert3d

...and a bit of help on running scripts here...

http://www.cambam.info/ref/script

The next release of CamBam has this invert function built in.

I hope this helps.

There is a VBScript here which will invert faces of of selected meshes in CamBam...

Thank you, I tried this way:
1. I saved the script in text format but with .vbs as extension, then
2. opened the STL file in CamBam, then
3. selected the object, then
4. ran the script

No result! :(

I really need to become able to get a normal light and machine the item. Please help me, I attach my screen shot and also the STL file.

hello hellocambam

At first, for me your file column.stl works fine. I have no problems with the orientation of the normals. I also can change the normals with Andys famous plugin. You know that you have to hit F5 for compiling the script?

Perhaps your problem is not comming from the 3D object. Try to change the value in the -> System tab -> configuration -> View Mode from GDI to OpenGL or revers. Then restart CamBam.

I get the same as ralf - it imports OK for me too.
You could try updating your video drivers to see if it helps.

Martin.

Thank you very much, you together pointed me out of problem!

Congratulations for holding such nice forum!  :)

Well, I still did not update my video driver, but I found OpenGL in my Options and I turned it back to GDI, and now the 3D object appears as light-green and I can easily see what I'm doing)

Now I'll go back to CamBam doc. & help to figure out how to machine this green 3D object,

Thank you again  ;D
