Title: Bad Start Points - Tangent Lead In
Post by: Bob La Londe on March 14, 2021, 18:32:21 pm
I am sure this one must have been reported before.

When using tangent lead-in it can sometimes create lead-ins that damage the part.

I usually take the time to create a start point that prevents it, but its easy to move geometry around for easier setup on the machine and forget to move the start point.

I don’t quite understand why there isn’t a straight line lead in. Tangent works but sometimes a straight lead in off the edge of the material works better. I frequently add a little line lead in or edit the end point of a line to get clearance.

Yes, but it is not really a bug but an "unhandled problem"  ;D that you must manage yourself as explained in the doc ... so I'll move this topic in the "Features request" section ..

@Bubba: straight line lead in has already been asked in the features request from a while !! ... certainly it is somewhere on Andy's todolist ...

So a bug isn't a bug if its documented?

"No there isn't anything wrong with our cars. It says right in the owners manual that they can spontaneously burst into flames."

It is a bug that it can create tool paths that crash into the geometry.  I've seen it happen when left to default as well.
