Hi dwc
Someone gave me this and I was wondering if there is a forum that specialized on jewelery and watches
http://www.nawcc-index.net/ToolsParts.php

Hi dwc
I am jeweler in Canada and the idea of making watches is something I have been thinking about.
I don't know much about watch making.
I had a store and I did change watch batteries and straps and this is all I know about the trade.
But I was at friends place who is a diamond setter and he had a big ss watch and he was setting the diamonds and he had a microscope to see the stones when setting.
I got inspired from that.
If I can build a big ss watch with diamonds the only way I would like to do that is have the frame milled at a machine shop than I would need a back for the frame and the movement.
I can go to a local watch maker for the movement and the installation.
The only thing is I would need to have some kind of a brand on it and stamp the back with a brand name.
Maybe I can talk to a local watchmaker for the brand name movement.
Also I would like to know more about your titanium watch that you are making
How is the process done
Why did you have the proto in brass and then had the titanium made.
This something completely new to me
Thanks for your reply

Hi dwc
Thanks for your help
My interest is mainly the stainless steel watches set with diamonds.
When I first heard that they were setting diamonds on ss I didn't believe it but it is really happening
I have seen this.
The tools they use are carbide for making the holes and they push the claws or beads with a tools with compressed air.
I am a diamond setter and I have many years of experience and I had a hard time believing this.
the frame of the watch must be machined with a mill and if one was to do mass production that CNC would be a good idea
I am not a machinist so I don't know much about that field.
You would also need a very sturdy milling machine if you are going to mill ss and the piece would have to be very precise.

Can I use Cambam for doing the milling work or would I need to follow a different procedure

Hi Folks
Would you have any idea of how ss watches are made.
I dont think that they are casting these watches and than giving it a fine finish.
I am guessing that they are milled.

I would like to make items like this
http://www.ross-simons.com/products/DCOT01.html
how are the beads on the diamonds made.
I have heard that they use carbide burs for making the place for the stone and they use
air pump or hydrological pump
(I think they are both the same)
for pushing the beads onto the stones.
http://www.ross-simons.com/products/DCOT01.html
but in this case I don't exactly know what they did

how is the frame made for the watch
I am guessing that they take a block of stainless steel metal and they make the shape on a milling machine

I don't think there is any welding

Here is another model
http://www.heavenlytreasures.com/w5713-pink.html

The back of the watch is probably made by punching sheet metal
I know that when the back is round than it is screwed on but
I found this image of a rectangular shaped watch
and it looks like it is forced in mechanically, that's how the cheap watches are done and also the
expensive watches
the fit has to be perfect and made so that it is firmly in the case

Thank You

Hi lloydsp
This person has a EDM machine

know the wire speeds necessary to optimize its life in any particular alloy and thickness.
All you need to know are the codes to control it.

where can I learn these codes
Thanks

Hi Folks
Thanks for your help.
It is good to know that I will be able to work with Cambam for this project
It is a manufacturer of chain machines and he want parts made for those machines and he has  a edm machine.
I called him and said I can work his machine and hopefully I will make some money from this service

Hi c.sitas
I am new to this but from doing a quick search on Google I see that EDM machines cut very small parts on very hard steel and other metals hard.
Can you tell me more about water jet and why running a EDM machine would not be a good idea for small parts
Thanks

CamBam help (General usage) / 20EDM
« on: March 16, 2011, 12:04:45 pm »
20EDM
I know someone and he has this machine.
I took a look at it and I think it was folded and not opened up because it didn't look exactly like this machine on youtube.
But it did write 20EDM on it.
He asked me if I would be able to use it.
What I would like to know from this forum is can I make files on Cambam and start machining with 20EDM.

Also I have never used a CNC machine but I have done lots of work with Rhino and  a bit with Cambam.
Under these conditions what are some of the things I should pay attention to  so I can start using 20EDM.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

« on: May 21, 2010, 17:28:57 pm »
by default madcam will work for 3axis
we can control if we should use 3axis
simultanous 4axis  or
indexed 5 axis

he is selecting simultanous 4axis

I know that you cant mill that rhino logo on a clynder with 3 axis
what i would like to know is to have that pieace milled
can it also be done with indexed 5 axis

Lets take this as an example
If I used a milling machine that was 3 axis then the tool bit would come straight down on to the
Fleur de Lys
That would make the surface not very smooth and how do you give it a nice smooth finishing so that when you polish the item it will come out nice.
I think you might need 5 axis
I am not sure about this because I am still new at cnc

How can some these 3D files be machined
can a 3 axis milling machine do them or would you need a 4 axis machine
I am thinking about the rounded curves on some of the files
Thanks
