CamBam help (General usage) / Re: 3D illusion wireframe - how to?
« on: January 14, 2022, 13:29:56 pm »
When you open a 3D object in CamBam it is a surface. The wireframe is only a display method. CamBam is, as far as I know, not able to convert a surface to wireframe. It can only display it as a grid.
The easiest way is to use a real 3D software.

All possible procedures in Cambam are too complicated and require a lot of cleaning. So you could explode the 3D object to single polygons and then redraw the edges. But the result is that each polyline lies twice next to each other.

The simple way:
Open the 3D object e.g. in Blender (free). Then export the object as DXF and select in the options an export in polylines. In the export options you can also set whether hidden lines should be displayed or not. The DXF export in Blender must be switched on once in the basic settings. When you open this object in CamBam, you no longer have the object as a surface but as a wireframe.
Now you can align the object to the origin as desired. Then you need the plugin "Flatten". This reduces the 3D object to Z=0. You can then engrave the lines.

thank you, i will try this solution

A wireframe would show the 'back' surfaces also but the image you attached shows only the front visible parts.

Well...of course wireframe shows also the back lines but, in that case I could slice the image along one axis and delete what's behind.
But even if i slice it i can't obtain a flat image with this "fake" 3D effect

CamBam help (General usage) / 3D illusion wireframe - how to?

Hi all!
Got a question for you.... I've seen that 3D illusion lamps in several websites, i'm wondering if it's possible to obtain this type of images using only cambam.
Basically, it's a wireframe but it's represented in a 2D image as you can see by the attached file.
For example....if I found the STL file of this bear, i could use the wireframe view to see the lines...then i could slice the STL file along XYZ axis but, i didn't obtain this same result....also, if i slice it i will obtain a group of lines along all the axis but i don't know how to export it as a 2D view...don't know if i've explained my problem  ::)

CamBam help (General usage) / Re: carve an inclined plane?

I made a new polyline (1) and used a 'Side Profile' machining operation with it.
see attached cb file.

I would make a trial with some scrap material like wood first to see how it turns out.

In the attached file I used a 3mm ball nose tool, you may want to change that but do use a ball nose type.

Thank you!
I've also found in the download section a plugin called Curved Surface Generator and it seems also to work fine, i will try both methods

CamBam help (General usage) / carve an inclined plane?

Hi all!
Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian.

I've got a question that is tearing me apart from days
A client of mine asked if i could realize him a little project so, i've agreed.
But when i saw the drawing i see that there is something i've never done: carving an inclined plane.
I've tried everything but with no results.
Searching in this forum, i've found that is possible to make an angled profile but, i need to carve also the center part.
I've been able to draw the piece, see attached files.
Anyone could help me? I've got no STL just the DXF file

Hi everybody!
i'm new to cambam, i've just finished my 40 trials and i've bought the license.
I haven't found this forum yet, so here's my question (a really noob question i suppose)
I've downloaded the last version 'cause i'm using a v 1.1 grbl, and i've extracted the files in the cambams plugin folder...but when i start cambam nothing changes, there's no new tab....what i'm doing wrong?  ???

sorry for my english, i'm italian
