CamBam help (General usage) / Re: G-Code Issue
« on: October 21, 2025, 09:49:17 am »
Hello,
It looks like you used an engraving mop. The engraving mop always starts relatively from the polyline. A depth is only used if the engraving is to be slightly deeper than the polyline.
Values such as “Stock Surface” and “Final Depth” are not used with an engraving mop.
Of course, you can use a specific depth below the polyline and also Depth Increment, but all height settings are relative to the polyline.

CamBam help (General usage) / Re: SUPER SLOW refresh times on the CB site

Hello David,
Please do not immediately blame Andy's server if the connection to the server is not working.
First, please perform a traceroute from different locations. https://tools.keycdn.com/traceroute is a good tool for this.
Currently, connections from the US and Asia are losing 100% of the packets. The connection is then repeated until the packets arrive, but this takes time.
In the last few days, I haven't been able to access the CamBam server at all. The connection always failed at a node. I then used the Tor browser. It finds its way through the Tor network and works even when there are connection problems.

From France, I am currently seeing connection losses at a node adm-bb1-link.ip.twelve99.net (62.115.138.166).
I am trying this from three French cities
https://globalping.io/network-tools/traceroute-from-france
Twice, 100% of the packets are lost. Then new packets are requested from the server, which then have to travel the entire distance again.
With many nodes and up to 90 ms per node, this quickly results in a timeout.

You can add that up yourself.

The connections are currently very poor, especially at night. However, this is often not due to Andy's server.

CamBam help (General usage) / Re: New polyline
« on: October 09, 2025, 14:31:55 pm »
indeed - this is the case. New polylines will land at the end of the list of ACTIVE layer. Copies stay within the source layer.

You can make any layer the active layer, including the one containing the source objects.
When creating new objects, such as with “Offset,” “Remove Overlaps,” etc., it is often advantageous to have the new polylines on a different layer.
Right-click on the desired layer and select “Set as active layer.”

The term “active layer” should be written in bold. I believe that is where the issue lies. An active layer is indicated by a green triangle. When new polylines are created, they are always found on the active layer. When meeks refers to the active layer, it should be clarified that he does not mean the layer on which he selects a polyline, but rather the layer indicated by the green triangle. I can work on a selected layer and it is still not the “active layer.”

The fastest way to move objects from one layer to another is to use “cut and paste.”

It could be that the controller uses a constant velocity setting for the three radii. If this setting causes this to happen, it never occurs at the start and end points of the milling process, which is why only three corners are rounded.

I have had very slow connections several times in the last few days. I tested the connection to the CB server with a traceroute that tracks the route from different cities (https://tools.keycdn.com/traceroute). Enter the CB domain or the IP 95.128.15.161 there. Today, connections from the USA are affected, as there is a lot of packet loss.
The response times of the CB server average 250 ms. That is very slow.
If the packets are then lost 5 more times along the way, the entire connection becomes slow.
Traceroutes from the USA and Asia have high losses, while traceroutes between Europe and the UK are currently fast. The CamBam server also responds in 50 ms.
Today the website is fast for me.

Scripts and Plugins / Re: MophMuse V 1.0.0.0 (Pre-release)
« on: September 24, 2025, 09:16:28 am »
Hello Ricardo,
This is a very helpful plugin. I can think of many possible applications right away. I will test it in the next few days.
Thank you.

It's exactly the same for me. I never set the starting point on a tab, as that doesn't make any sense.

But I often use lead outs, otherwise you can immediately see the end of a milling path when milling acrylic glass. So, whenever I need polished edges, I use a lead out. This is often a spiral. The mistake of cutting off tabs is something that happens to me quite often.

There are always problems with holding tabs and lead in / lead out strategies. If the lead-in is in the same place as a holding tab, errors occur. Since I discovered the error back then, I make sure that no starting point is located in the same area of a holding tab. CB does display the errors.  (image 1)

During a spiral lead-out with an angle of 0, holding tabs are cut through.
This is also an error that should be noted. (Image 2)
However, the errors are displayed in CB and in the toolpath filter.

Thanks for the update, Eddy.
I've added it to my downloads.

perhaps you can attach the STL file.

I would mill the outer wheel in 2.5D.
However, I would draw circles, because Silhouette or Plane Slice always have angular lines due to the polygons, never a circle.
I would only mill the inner part with the spokes in 3D. The hub is then 2.5D again. The whole thing can be done with several machining operations from one file. A two-sided machining must be done anyway

I would first attribute the CB behaviour you describe to a bad mesh. Blender is certainly not the specialised programme for repairing meshes. First, the 3D object should be created cleanly. For the analysis I use Meshmixer, MeshLab or Netfabb. There are free versions of all 3 programmes that you just have to search for. The settings for the resolution and scanning precision in CB are important and must match the resolution of the mesh.

But when I think about your description, I don't understand why you want to mill such a wheel in 3D. This is a typical application for a profile or/and pocket mop.
Perhaps you could show the file or at least a picture of this wheel.

Scripts and Plugins / Re: error on threading plugin

I have been working with the 64 bit version of CamBam for many years. It runs more stable and faster than the 32 bit version. Especially when it comes to memory management, the 64 bit version has an advantage.
Even if you use the 32 bit version with the 4 Gb patch, the calculation of the toolpaths is faster in the 64 bit version.
I often mill 3D reliefs where the calculated toolpaths are in the millions. This takes time, but CB does not crash.
