@airnocker - Don't know what precession is but, yes they were cut in sequence.
Thank you for your reply.

Gunter

Precession:
In your photos with the red arrows, if a line is drawn between the two opposing arrows of all the photos to represent the long axis of the eccentricity, the the line and its arrow end-points appear to be rotating the same amount about an off-axis center point between each successive photo.  The rotation of the off-axis center point about the true center of the intended profile cut of the disc is precession.

As others have stated, this unintended movement of the disc's profile cut could indicate that one or more of your machine's axes has some freedom of movement issues.

Good luck with finding the cause.  You could have a better forum than CB, with amazing experts on it to get help and suggestions for solving this problem.

The last photo you posted showing the inconsistencies looks like a "precession" of the axis of eccentricity" from left to right of a similar angle of rotation.  Are the cut circles shown milled/cut-out in the left-to-right sequence?

Very cool, Bubba!

@EddyCurrent...totally weird I must admit.

Nissim made his post, which I read as soon as I got the new CB Forum post alert.  A while later I got another alert to the same thread.  I read it, and it was your reply to his initial post with a link to a previous CB discussion thread on the DXF measurement (inches vs. mm).  I looked at the thread link you referenced and "was enlightened" by the information.

So, I posted my reply quoting you and your thread link.  From my view of the CB window, my thread response came after yours.

very strange indeed but I've seen the discussion thread order change before, like when someone replies to a thread while you are typing a reply to the same thread.

That same question was answered here; https://cambamcnc.com/forum/index.php?topic=9539.msg73985#msg73985

Eddy, thanks for this terrific morsel of DXF info and pixelmakers CB link.  I've not ever encountered the problem Nissin mentioned with my DXF imports into CamBam so I consider myself lucky.  The CAD apps I use to generate DXF files apparently have the correct units variable set.

@Eddy, does this make more sense?

That Amphenol part number to does show up in Amphenol or DigiKey parts lists.  Maybe you could post a photo of the connector.

Love it!  Nice work.  And, it is so much smaller than an Altec A-5 horn or bass reflex cabinet!

Like Lloyd, I'm an audio buff from the same era.

CamBam help (General usage) / Re: CB V1.0 Copy/Pasting LayerObjects

I did find some references to this type of Python coding error in CB 0.9.8N and earlier, in this forum and a few other forums, all related to Python programming syntax, but they do not seem to apply here.

The error I experience has variations for which objects types are referred to in the message "Unable to cast object of type xxx to object of type zzzz".

I've had at least 4 encounters with this type of error in the past 3-4 months with my CB V1.0 when copying drawing objects by their layer or copying groups of drawing objects within a layer from on CB file window to another.  And I use CB almost every day for drawing how mechanical parts fits together or mount in proximity to each other in order to design those items I'm going to mill on my CNC machine.

Rebooting the computer usually resolves the problem.  I beginning to think it is related to the last two Win10-64 updates and my 12+ year old MSI Intel Core 2 Quad motherboard w/8GB RAM.

I modified my post explaining where it is.

CamBam help (General usage) / CB V1.0 Copy/Pasting LayerObjects
« on: April 15, 2022, 03:29:31 am »
Possibly this has been covered in an earlier post but I couldn't find evidence of it. (I modified this post on 04/16/22 to hopefully explain this better.)

Sometimes I get this error when copy/pasting a Layer with its underlying objects from one CB V1.0 file to another. (Clarification: There are two or more instances of CB open, each with a different CB file.)

I can usually just select the Layer container in one CB V1.0 File window, Copy, change to the other CB V1.0 file window, select it's Layer folder, and Paste.  Randomly I seem to get this attached error message when doing this.  Sometimes when I select the Layer container and all of it's objects, click Copy, change to target file and Paste and all goes well.  Other times I'm able to just select the Layer container and copy/paste it and the pasted layer container is complete with all of its drawing objects.

When neither of these methods work,  I have to first create the new Layer with the same name in the CB file2 window, change to CB file1 window and select all objects in the layer container I needing to copy, Copy, change to CB file2, make sure the target layer object is selected, then click Paste, in order to effect a layer copy.

Any ideas what causes this error?

On dust collection, that little Dust Deputy cyclonic seperator was a huge benefit. Since I mostly use small cutters (90% of the time just a .25" end mill, and ,25" Ball end mill), a small (about 3.5"-4D) dust shoe seems best. The vacuum port on the shoe is small so even though I have a large dust collector in my shop that's quite high volumetric flow, it can't create the vacuum that a shop vac can, and high vacuum is needed to move enough air through the small port on the shoe. Problem is, the small filter on a shop vac will plug with foam chips in 10 minutes of cutting. I was skeptical whether the cyclone would effectively seperate the very light foam fluff but it does so quite well. I can cut for several days without needing to clean the filter, and when I do, it only needs to be shook out, not thoroughly cleaned.

Best,
Kelly

I find that I can even use a canister-type home vacuum cleaner as the vacuum source with the Dust Deputy.  I started by using a small shop vac with my Dust Deputy back in 2007 or so, but eventually got tired of it's high noise level.  I had two home vacuums whose floor attachments had broken and found them far quieter and just as effective with the Dust Deputy.

We'd love to see more of your projects, too!

Very interesting video demonstrating foam milling and lost foam casting!  Thank for sharing Kelly.

The Dust Deputy is worth it's weight in gold isn't it!

Machine control software such as Mach3 allows the addition of a custom Auto Tool Zero macro button to be implemented.  I've written documentation on how this is accomplished in Mach3 and a PC if this interests you.
