Hurricane predicted to hit here!
« on: September 23, 2022, 16:57:43 pm »
I'll be spending the next day or two putting-up protective coverings on all our windows.  The skylights are done!

I'll still be checking posts and emails, but less-frequently, until I get the house and property secured for the storm.

It's supposed to hit Tampa as a Category-3 storm, and still be at least a Cat-1 when it crosses the state and gets here.

Wish us luck!

Thanks, Bubba.

It looks like we might 'luck out'.  Although the 'cone' shows us still in its path, the general trend is slightly west.  That means we'd still get storm winds and rain, but not a direct 'eye hit', which was predicted earlier.

My sailboat went thru hurricane Sandy sitting on stands with the keel off. My 8 year old grandson helped me screw in 4 large screw anchors 3 feet deep. Then two 2” heavy duty binder straps over the boat. My boat was undamaged despite 5 other boats leaning up against the straps. Watermark left on the hull was above the painted water line.  Unlike the 100 or so other boats that were found all over the surrounding neighborhood!

Pictures of my boat after the storm were published in Boat US magazine. My insurance company saw the article and sent me $75, half the cost of storm prep per my insurance policy!

Ick!  We've taken a turn for the worse.  The cone has narrowed and moved further East.  It may pass nearly directly over us.

The only 'good' thing is the predicted winds are now a good 10% lesser than they were yesterday.  I have four more minor 'openings' to shutter, and the house is as-protected as it shall be.  The shop and barn?  Eh....

Dang-It!

Its not been that long since you took a brutal hit from a storm.  Now another one.

Got all the disconnects pulled?

Backup generator for the sump pump?

Sandbags piled in front of the doorways?

All of those, Bob!  I've even test-run the genset.  All that's left to do is cover those four openings, and wait.  We're supposed to begin getting 'rain bands' later this afternoon.

I keep checking in to see if there is any update on how Lloyd weathered the storm.

Folks, thanks!

Except for three days without power and the equivalent of about five large trees now in small 'chunks' and spread around in our 'mowing areas'.  we did just fine.

We just got power back early yesterday.  In the meanwhile, we'd been running our gen-set one hour 'on' and four 'off', just to keep the freezer cold, and to pump water (we're on a well).  Doing that was only a minor inconvenience, and with a foot of standing water all over the property, there wasn't much else to do!  ;D  Our home is built on an elevated site, so the water never came in the house.

The road out front re-opened just about the same time as when we got power.  So, except for the big mess, we're in fine shape!  We were most blessed that nobody became ill during that episode, since there was no way in or out of the property, except by helicopter.  The Lord really took care of us.  Not even ten miles up the road, a small community of 'storm -resistant' (Cat-3) modular homes simply blew away!

Thanks again for caring.

Lloyd
