.........maybe it is specific to GRBLMachine plugin, because if I do the same (without the plugin), the default PP selected remain selected on the next session.

I can't test GRBLMachine, (no GRBL machine to connect to)

Seems that the plugin generate its own PP (GRBLMachine.cbpp) when it is run.

If you can't solve the problem, you can try to define the PP in the machining folder, in the Post processor property (in this case it is defined only for the current project)

In another similar topic you linked the PP section of the documentation. It comments when PP selection must be refreshed.

I mentioned I had been working in multiple instances of CB. I think when I open a new instance of CB then select/open a file in that new instance, it retains the default settings of CB, as opposed to using/selecting a previously saved CB file to open a new instance of CB. In the former the default CB settings apply and the latter, the settings saved in the file apply. I'm still not sure when the Grbl Machine PP becomes invoked.

Best,
Kelly

Use a Template.

But with the right PP selected in the post processor property (in the machining folder), because the template do not save what is the PP selected as default in the options  ;)

To use a template, make a new empty file and set the grblemachine pp in the options.
Save the file in the template folder.

When you start CB with a new file from template it will be set.
Then make your geometry and generate the code, switch to GRBL machine and  run the file.
If you make a mistake then GRBLMachine will ask if you want to regenerate the file again with the GRBLMachine PP, if everything is ok grbl will just run.
See pics.
