mine want money for the cert tried the free ones but they run out and want money also.
With my root server I have 10 free Basic SSL certificates from GeoTrust. They always run for one year and can then be renewed free of charge. However, these certificates are linked to my IP addresses. They have a level like the certificate used here. These certificates get nice people who are allowed to have their domains on my servers. ;-)
I offer my clients free certificates from
Lets Encrypt. Once set up, they are valid for 3 months and are then automatically renewed. Apart from an email about the successful renewal, you don't hear anything about the whole process. The Lets Encrypt certificates also secure domain aliases, subdomains, webmail and wildcard domains.
The key is RSA 2048. A thousand instances of Amazon Web Services would take about 17 days, generating costs of about $40,000, to crack a 2048-bit RSA key.
Free certificates are also available from other companies, such as Claudflare. Comodo and other companies offer certificates starting at $20.
For money, of course, there are higher encryptions and certificates with holders in the certificate. Those start at around $100 and then the prices go up with the certificate size.
But I think, if you see the value of the content of our domains, a higher encryption is only necessary if a lot of personal data or company data has to be secured.
The now newly established certificate on this website is generated on Sat, 25 Mar 2023 00:00:00 GMT and valid for one year.
