Current settings on G201x?
« on: April 28, 2023, 15:47:17 pm »
Should I dare set the current on it's top current setting of 7 amps, I am driving a KL34H2160-62-8A-Key Stepper motor and yes the driver is Gecko 201X and the motor as you can tell in the nomenclature is rated at a max amperage of 8 Amps. The power supply for now is 48 volts. Thanks for the input! Have a good day.

I burned up a fair number of gecko drivers using specs that they specifically said would be fine. I don't mean just what they printed on their website but also what one of the three Ms said to me directly.

They used to feature one of my videos on one of their playlists. I contacted them one day and frustration and told them that I didn't want my videos associated with their business. That should tell you how well it worked out for me.  I know of two machine builders who quit using gecko drives because they said they got tired of replacing them when they were running them within spec.

If your gecko drive is working and you're happy with the results don't monkey with it.

I had servo drives fail when running under spec, but continuously at those loads.  I had stepper drives fail when I was running them at occasional peaks up to near spec.

These opinions are my own based on my experience and I make no claim that my opinions are based in a mind of greatness.  To be cliche, your mileage may vary.

Bummer to hear about the failures. I have been running nema 23's set at 5 amps for about 7 years with no problems. Hopefully the nema 34's don't smoke my Gecko's. You are running Leadshine's right? How are they working out for you. Yea I been paying attention to your post's.  So basically leave well enough alone.

I have 4 machines running whatever stepper drive the mfg chose with no issues for various nema 34 steppers.  They all look like Leadshine clones but they are all marked differently.

I just reread my post saying i was driving the nema 23's at 5 amps and that was wrong. I had them sett at3.5 amps. So leadshine may be the way to go.
