CamBam1 on Windows11 through Mac or not
« on: November 27, 2023, 12:06:12 pm »
Hello,

My windows 7 pc that ran the licensed cambam 1.0 crashed. The motherboard.... Never had a problem before on using CamBam with it...

So, now, I'm thinking about getting a Mac as a lot of my friends use that for music so as we can share files... But I'd need to have a Windows tablet or portable for CamBam only...

Reading here, on the forum, I've seen that the administrators wrote Cambam1 was tested with windows 10, nothing's written if it was tested with Windows11 (But I've seen some posts where people with CammBam with Windows11 and with success!!!)

As I have to buy a new machine, either I'd get a MacBook Pro with Paralles Desktop and a Windows ARM to run Cambam or I'm getting an Air, cheaper, + I'll buy a keyboard tablet like the Microsoft Surface with Windows11 to use Cambam...
Option 1 or 2 will get me around same price...

Any thoughts on this? Mac + Windows ARM and CamBam? CamBam on a tablet (8go and 128ssd)?
Your help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your "Good luck"  ;) as it seems that there are not many Mac & CamBam users around...
've found that normally Parallels & Windows11 & CamBam work together (especially with the M1 M2 chip) but nothing about the newest M3 chip... So??? Hard to decide...

Hello
I have been using CamBam for years on the Mac in Parallels Desktop.
I have also managed to install the Linux version of CamBam directly on the Mac. However, Mono for Mac does not work properly and I could not use fonts, for example. So I didn't continue with it.
I have been using the 64bit version of Cambam on Win 7 and 10 since it was released.
I have tried almost all existing plugins without finding any problems.
And I think CamBam should work better in the Parallels Desktop environment than on a tablet. It has many advantages. I only have the system and programs installed on the Parallels Windows drive, all application files are on the Mac and are therefore backed up with the Time Machine. The Windows drive in Parallels cannot be backed up with the Time Machine, it is constantly changing and so a 25 GB file would be backed up every hour. So I only have the Windows drive once as a file in the data backup. If the drive does not work, I can replace this file and continue working.
Only my milling machine runs on a PC.

Hello pixelmaker

Thanks a lot for that complete answer!!! I guess I'll give it a try then ;) Just hoping it'll work with the M3 chip (For 200$ more or so you can get the M3 new instead of the older M1 refurbished)...
Thanks (and I'll let you know if it works in case someone's in the same problem)
Cheers
