linux mint license install
« on: February 12, 2025, 22:21:47 pm »
Ok so the long and short is.. some time ago I purchased my machine complete , laptop and all.. well the old mechanical drive failed and I don't have any of the licensing info ..

I have also switched everything over to Linux Mint most recent version.. things are moving fast in the linux community.. so a lot of the info as to install of cambam is sorta mixed or does not apply.. and most to the threads in this forum seem to be a number of years old.. not a lot of recent activity

Either way I got v1.0 working on my linux..  my question is this..

I have read in some places that when you get your license you just copy it to a directory.. my install prompts me to enter the key..

So before I commit over 200 canadian to another license.. I would really like to know where and how to add the license key..

Hello

Did you buy your license on the cambam shop ? If so, I can maybe find it if you can give me the email address used for the order, or a name (I searched with the email and name you gave me to create your account, but I found nothing)

If you find those info, use a private message to contact me.

The licence is a file called CamBamPro.lic and must be copied in the CamBam install folder.

If by chance you noted the key somewhere, you can type it when the soft ask for it and it will automatically creates the license file. (that is just a text file that contain the key)

thanks for the offer.. but sorry to say that I was new to cnc at the time and just purchased the entire setup as working.. at the time I never gave any thought to the license.. or who purchased it..  so I pretty much consider it as lost.. not really and issue for me.. as much as I can tell you is that it was 0.98 , and it would ask me to update to a new version.. I am of the age old saying ,, if it isn't broke don't fix it.. I can do a work around using freecad.. but it is kind of dodgy to get it to give me similar results.. for the things I do , cambam offers a lot of flexibility which makes things considerably easier..  copy paste between two windows and multiple parts.. then arranging to get best use of material.. and it plays nice with my Mach3..

BTW ... I like the look and feel of the V1.0  stupid fast on linux..  if there was anything I could suggest.. is to have cambam "import" multiple parts.. then I would not have to have two open windows to load parts and copy paste between them..

I always had various problems with the Linux version of CamBam that prevented me using it. Recently I have had better success running the Windows version under Wine 10. A dialog box asks you for your license key when you first start it, then it stores it in a file so you don't have to re-enter it every time.

Installed and working perfectly.. running native linux mint and stupid fast... if this had been on windows.. I probably would have crashed the system and had to re-install..

These two plugins might be the answer to your suggestion but I don't know how well they work on Linux.
