Cleaning up an engraving cut
« on: September 26, 2025, 22:47:41 pm »
On some multi-level engraving cuts with a straight bit I can see  a witness line at each cut level. (I assume this has something to do with the bit). A pocket MOP I allows me to specify a finish stepover so that the final pass is at full height, cleaning up the witness marks.  If I'm doing an engraving cut, there's no equivalent option that I can see. I can do an open offset on the engraving path and follow the engraving step by a pocket step at full depth, but is there a better way to handle this?

I wouldn't blame the cutter.  If you're getting marks on the sidewalls of an engraved line, the fault lies in X/Y accuracy (or 'play') in the machine's positioning.

The only ways you can solve that are to either fix the positioning errors or do (as you say) a pocket MOp at full depth inside the line after engraving.
