Artifact on importing Rhino .3DS files
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:47:03 am »
I imported this file, which is a demo file from Rhino 4.0.

I re-sized it, and the X/Y axes appear normal (about 11" long, and 4-or-so wide), but the Z height is quadrillions of inches high.

Huh?

That's what it _looks_like_ to me, too.  But run the cursor up and down the z axis, and look at the scale at the lower-right corner of the screen.  Do the same in the x-y plane, and you get reasonable readings.

It does the same thing without any file loaded when viewed in the XZ/YZ planes.
I think the coordinates only make sense in the XY plane, with the other planes being mainly for viewing, rather than working in - but I'm sure Andy will have the best explanation for this.
