CamBam 0.98 Demo vesion G Code issue
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:38:16 am »
I made two similar DXF files with "Emachine shop" free CAD software. Imported them separately into CamBam, ran toolpaths and produced GCodes. The first one works perfectly and saves into the folder on the desktop. The second seems to save as GCode, but then it is nowhere to be found. I have looked at the file directory that it states it goes. I also Used the Windows search facility, but doesn't find the Gcode. The only thing it seems to be doing is adding a BAK file into the correct folder but no Gcode

Any Ideas please ??

I don't want to insult your intelligence, but it has happened to me before.
Maybe you wrote them to the same file name?
Then there would be a backup, but the file would be overwritten.
Good luck,
Don

I Doubt if I have enough intelligence to insult.  But no, totaly different file names.

If you click on the 'Machining' folder in the drawing tree, you should see a property (in the lower left property grid), named 'Out File'.

This should contain the name and location of the g-code file that was produced.
If there is no path information there, it should save the gcode to the same folder as the CamBam file (.cb).

You also might see a value like:
{$cbfile.name}.nc

When the g-code is saved, it looks to see if the filename chosen contains the drawing filename then replaces this with the {$cbfile.name} macro.  This way, if you copy or rename your CamBam file, it shouldn't remember the old g-code output filename.

Another thing to try... If you clear the machining Out File property (select any text there and press delete),
the next time you generate g-code, it should prompt you again for the g-code filename to save to.
If you look at this file save dialog, it should show where it is going to save.

I hope this helps!

Ok, I tried this, but it doesn't solve it. Very strange.

No, It says at the top after I press "Produce GCODE"   Cambam is thinking and then stops. Just like it is working.

AHAH!
Does the "thinking" message ever go away by itself?

How complex is the file?  Can you upload it?

Yes, the "thinking" message goes away after 2 or 3 seconds. The file is very simple. Just 2 circles, 4 curved cut outs and 12 drill holes.
