Nesting Doc
« on: June 23, 2013, 18:52:18 pm »
Hello,

I (try to) translate my French nesting doc in English, here is the result.

http://www.atelier-des-fougeres.fr/Cambam/Aide/English_addendum/Nesting.html

This is now integrated in the regular manual

http://www.cambam.info/doc/dw/1.0.0/cam/nesting.html

David,
Thank you!  Your grasp of English is far better than mine of French!

As (if) time permits, I will attempt to put that in the common American English vernacular, but I must say that, for the most part, you did a yeoman job of it!

There is very little to change, and then, only in the use of particular words unique to American English, and as pertains to case and tense, which varies between the Latinic and Germanic languages.

I use nesting all the time, and that is a very good write up.  I learned a couple things that I did not know or had wrong about how it works as well.  Thank you.

Hi David,

seems that this link

http://www.atelier-des-fougeres.fr/Cambam/Aide/English_addendum/Nesting.html

is not reachable.

I has been moved to China and I do not know if this page is really not reachable, or in not reachable from here.

And Phil, if you think the documentation is great (which it is!), just wait 'til you see how much support you get here on the forum, and how quickly you get it.

(you just got a taste of that)

I've just read the document and watched a very good video about nesting. I have a problem that may not have a solution but I'm hoping there is. I need to turn one of my parts ninety degrees in order to fit all parts on a sheet of 4x8 ply. Is there a way of doing this. I'd much rather use nesting than copy and paste.

Sometimes I make a copy of the part, then rotate and reposition it so less material is wasted. Then make MOP for both objects and nest them as a single block. As a result they are nested as pairs.

Actually it's quite easy to rotate a single copy while nesting.

Bring up the Nesting Collection editor (click ellipsis next to the Nesting Items).
Select the copy in question or add another one.
Set it's location to 0,0,0 to simplify rotation.
Open it's Transform, fill Rotation, Z, 90 degrees, apply.

The copy would be rotated 90 degrees around origin.
Position it to place by dragging the red triangle.

Note: you may also mirror this copy be setting Scale -1 in Transform.
