Is there a cheaper licence?
« on: August 21, 2014, 08:49:39 am »
Hi,

Is there a licence for home users? or are all licences £98?

Seems quite steep for a DIY Hobby CNC.

"Download CamBam now to provide 40 free and fully functional evaluation sessions. After this time CamBam will still produce around 500 lines of gcode so you can continue to evaluate and run small jobs."

If you can split your job into chunks less than 500 lines you can keep using it.
I tried demos of most CAM software but chose CamBam because of it's relatively low price, high features, extensive user tweakability, able to produce scripts and plugins (once 'how to' is learned)

Trust me, it is well worth it. Take the plunge. I bought it to use in my hobby shop. But my hobby has grown. I have about 4 steady customers now. I know CamBam has been a vital part in this growth. It helps me to continually show my customers the tricky geometry that can be achieved with CNC and Cambam. I would be terribly handicap without it.

Try buying a "professional" CAM program, then you'll see what steep is!

The next step up is probably the basic BobCad Mill, and its about 4 times more expensive for the lowest most featureless version.  DesKAM cost more than CamBam and isn't as good.

I don't even know how many different CAM packages I demoed before I stared using CB, but it was a lot.  CB is the best bang for your buck that I know of.

I admit I have started running up against the limitations of CB, but its a lot of software for the price and the community here is an incredible support system.
Getting started on CNC?  In or passing through my area?
If I have the time I'll be glad to show you a little in my shop.

I am new to CNC machining and have just purchased CamBam after trying free Cad/Cam programs. When I looked at the licence cost I felt it was expensive for DIY use; but after using it for only one week I now feel its worth the money.

The interface is intuitive and easy to use and it work a treat I was generating working g-code within an hour of installing CB.

I very happy customer  ;D

I concur, even tho I haven't bought Cambam yet, and I'm myself very new to CNCing, I find that 98 is rather fine, compared to the price of raw materials and tools I'm going to ruin as soon as I get going!

Just a few random sizes of aluminium plates to do tests are easily 50 quid, same thing with Plex etc; not even mentioning tools -- right now I'm sticking to 'china special' to get my teeth into the task (ahaha) but I know that 'decent' tools are very expensive...

So I think 98 quid is OK, that is, if I can manage to get the damn thing to work for me ;-)

I have no financial interest in CamBam except for the money I make using it as part of a battery of tools in my shop.

I can say without equivocation that CamBam is the BEST product for the money you can buy for CAM work.

It's not the most capable.  It's not the cheapest.  But it has more features, more 'extensibility', and more support than any other product on the market costing less than $1000.

This forum has been worth the purchase price several times over, for me.

Yep,
If a product doesn't have a great user forum like this one then you will struggle a lot.  At this price point no one can afford to provide real tech support for a software package that isn't purchased by at least the tens of thousands.

I bought CamBam for my homebuilt machine, just ordered a second copy for the new CNC in our shop.  Have ever tried convincing the boss you need software that costs more than the machine?  In fact we got the machine really cheap because the previous owner didn't use it.  Without a Cam package it took way to long to program for the one offs they were doing.  Glad they didn't know about CamBam!

Soon as started CamBam paid I bought the license.
When I bought CutViewer, I made a donation to the Andy, creator of CamBam.
This donation is by the effort and dedication of Andy.
