How do I slice this?
« on: June 09, 2016, 17:18:02 pm »
Have a stl file of a horse.
I would like to make a mold of it but only 1 side of it.
Is there a way to split the horse from nose to tail and mill just the side profile of the horse?

Hello,

If I well understand, no need to split the 3D, use a 3D machining operation as if you want to machine a halve positive shape (so your model must be centered in Z and you restrict the target depth to the halve of the thickness of the model), and in this op set the mold property to true to invert the toolpath.

maybe too big, zip it

Doesn't look like the horse will will compress enough.

But I do have another one one.
I need to flip the coin and reverse it.
What I am wanting to do is carve it into a graphite mold then cast it.
So it will look like the picture when it comes out of the mold.

If you could can you point me to what i need to read?

here is a link to a drop box folder it should have the horse in it.

Think I might of figure a couple thinks out on the coin.
I need to do a mirror of the coin to get it reversed.
Then use 3d then select mold and it will create "a negative mold toolpath is generated from a positive shape.'
Set stock surface to zero and target depth to what my final size should be.
