If possible I think a progress bar and/or an estimated remaining time would be very useful. It's running since 4 hours (only one core, sadly) and I don't know when it will finish!

After about 4 hours of unrolling, CamBam crashed. Now I've started again the job. I hope it will run fine, otherwise what could I send you to help to understand what happens? Aside of the cb file of course (~100 MB).

Hello

I think (but not sure) that CB crash because your 3D model is too big and it ran in an "out of memory" error. Maybe you're using settings that gives an object with too much facets.

Are you using the 4GB patch to be able to use 4GB of RAM instead 2 ? (works only on 64 bits Windows) ; it solve most of the memory problems.

hello guys,

Any ideea if using the unroill plugin or any other plugin I could make this shape an 2d sketch ?

I want to have the entire 3D drawing flat out to a straight plane, I also have 3d lines, not just that surface, I used cambam to generate the 3d surface from the 3d lines, in hope I could use than the unroll plugin to have the drawing flat

Thank you

I'm not 100% what you mean exactly, I have two things in mind,

1. do you want the 3D shape flat so that you can cut it out of a flat piece of material and then bend it into the 3D shape. ?
2. or do you want to create something like a third angle projection drawing with 2D front, side, top views ?

#1 it is :) .. an easy way to unfold, to lay flat that 3d line

Hello

The unroll plugin will not work for this job because it unroll only at 360°, it is not designed to "flatten" something.

I think you first have to decide if the shape really will lie flat without any deformation.
If you think of it being made from thin sheet steel, then curves in two planes are unlikely to unfold flat. I think some stretching or kinking of the material will occur.

The material is made of rubber, we already made past year a template to hold the flattened rubber part, but we manually drew the edges of that shape, used the plotter to cut a paper, and compare it with the original rubber part that can be forced to lay flat.

Now we need to do the same for more shoe sizes :)

The attached image is a previously made template with the flattened shape drawn partially by hand.

I think you will need some other software.

Rhino has a surface unroll feature, you can get a 90 day trial here, https://www.rhino3d.com/download/

Does CB have a <100MB memory limitation? I ask because the original poster of this thread mentioned 100MB and I have a large (108MB) surface I wish to machine that fails because of the same memory exception. I originally thought the memory exception might have been my computer and I was going to install CB on another computer but having read this and the link to the patch, maybe not. I have experimented a bit with the mesh settings but it is a large surface (24" x 12" x 2") so even large mesh means a large amount of cells. If so I'll start another thread so as not to hijack this one.

Best,
Kelly

Kelly,

Are you using the 64bit version of CamBam ?

Kelly, Are you using the 64bit version of CamBam ?

It's been so long I couldn't recall for sure so I went to the CB program file, checked properties and other than Verion 1.0 I'll be darned if I can identify whether its 32 or 64 bit. How do I identify that? There was a file in the CB folder fade2D_Win32_v120_Release.dll

Best,
Kelly

The one I have installed is 64bit and it has a file called, fade2D_x64_v140_Release.dll, so that would indicate yours is 32bit.

It can be downloaded here; https://cambamcnc.com/downloads/#devt
The info says, "This version has been compiled for 64 bit systems, which may improve performance with larger 3D operations."
