Die Handle(s) - Shop Made
« on: September 26, 2019, 16:18:48 pm »
Its been one of those weeks. Lost a spindle on a machine and I've been making parts to swap in a quick change spindle to replace the bad one. On another machine the coolant pump started smoking while the machine was cutting a job. Turn out to have a bad CAP on the motor. I tried to fix it on the fly, and wound up dumping about 6 gallons of coolant on the machine room floor. Then yesterday and the day before I had to shut down early when thunder storms started rolling in. Don't want to take a lightning strike with a machine connected up.

I said screw it. I'm going to accomplish something even if it kills me. I need to make a fitting for the air system for that machine that's getting a new spindle. I have the perfect size pipe die to make the fitting, but no way to hold it, so I made a way to hold it.

The big die handle is what I made yesterday. About 50% manual machining. The little die holder I made a year or two back. I used it to thread the handles for the large die holder.

Using tools I made in the past to make tools to use the tools to make the part to fix the tools to make your parts. LOL.

After finish all three sizes of these that I needed my dad said, "why didn't you just make the biggest one, and bushings for the smaller ones."

DOH!

That would have sure saved me some time.
