Need help converting Post..
« on: December 03, 2019, 18:49:13 pm »
Hi, I need help converting/adopting Vectric post processor to CamBam. I have look at it and this is way over my head. Just bought an Endurance 10W laser (now need to wait for it) meanwhile looking at CB post processors, those don't include the M11/M10 commands. Furthermore, I need spindle control to be able to control the laser power thru PWM.

I attach those files hopefully you guys be able and willing to help.

Post, created by David called 'CB-Endurance Post' - need to modified.
Vectric post to be used as example, adopt for CamBam.. 'Vectric_Endurance Mach3 M11P1 (mm)'

This vectric post come from Endurance Lasers Facebook members page, sorry couldn't find any for CB. By the way as the name say 'Vectric_Endurance Mach3 M11P1 (mm)' They only have for metric as I understand it. I need Inch.
Attached is more info explaining further what is needed.
Thanks for the help.

The first file is one of mine, but this is used for scaling the spindle speed to suit the pwm values required by your particular laser.
This one David did looks, like it will work.

Hello

Yes, that's what I was going to propose.
I guess it works with inches too. (4 decimals after point, min arcs  = 0.0001", max arcs = 10000")

carefully read how to use it (values for MOP)

Thank you for the replies fellas. Well,I don't know how I did this but it happened. I did downloaded CB post written by David and saved into download folder while back and forgot about it. As I went to where Dave pointed me to and click to download this PP plugin windows asked do I wan't to overwrite the file.  ??? ??? David, I'm hoping this will work because the laser on/off function is controlled M10P1 and M11 P1. Here is partial copy from the pdf file
"M11P1 followed by a G0, G1, G2 or G3 (plus a move) command on the next line will
activate the PWM signal. The M11 command allows for the laser output to be
synchronized and turned on with the start of the next motion command. This
prevents the burning of holes in your material or burning before you get to the
starting point of the line you want it to turn on at.
M10P1 followed by a G0, G1, G2 or G3 (plus a move) command on the next line will
deactivate the PWM signal. The M10 command allows for the laser output to be
synchronized and turned off with the start of the next motion command, and stops
the laser shutting off before you get to the end of the line you're burning"

The Spindle speed control the power. Once I get it set up,learn bit more about it be able to comment on this PP more.
Thanks again gentleman.

Yes, but paid attention to the mop settings because the laser On/Off is done when the Z axis move below/above the clearance plane.

To use it in Cambam, you must use a Z move to start/stop the laser

Example:

Clearance plane = 0.01
Stock surface = 0
Target depth = -0.01

Yes, I did set up style for the laser and the Z setting you mentioned are used. Thanks for the help.

Hi All, Hoping everyone had very good Christmas. Now, I need an answer why the Engrave MOP not inserting the M11P1/M10P1 comments? The last week I laser cut many parts for Nativity shadow box using Profile MOP successfully where the M11P1/M10P1 command were present. Now they are missing using engrave Mop using the same PP. Why is that?

Hello

I think it's line N8 that cause problem ; at line N7, the Z go below the 0 and the PP should write a M11P1 just after, but on the next line there is a Z0 statement and all the following Gcode is "cut" at Z=0, so the laser is not started because the Z is noy bellow 0.

Bingo!
Thanks David, for pointing me in the right direction. Since I'm using hightmap plugin to generate toolpath it never occurred to me the toolpath was at z zero. After reading your post I lowered the toolpath 0.001 inch and that did the trick. Will burn it tomorrow and see the results. Just starting with laser so I need a lot to learn.

Attached my first laser project using Endurance laser with stock lens it cut HD Sandeply 5.2mm .205" thick plywood in 5 passes @ 14 IPM. So far I'm happy with this diode laser..

Good job!
I gave up with my Opt Laser PLH3D-6W-XF (6W 445 nm). It can barely cut soft plywood of 3 mm with 10 passes @ 800 mm/min. And I had to manually cut the bottom edge of most pieces... I'm afraid I need to wait when the prices go down and I can buy a more powerful laser diode!

Hi Bubba

Looks Good, 14 in\min (355 mm\min) seems reasonable, I was going to ask 'what was the depth of cut' was per single pass, did you have the PWM cranked up to full power?.
Did you try going any slower to increase the DOC, I know some guy's who cut out balsa wood for their model Airplanes. 3 mm or less thickness of material  which they cut in one pass
I didn't think ask what feed rate they use,but I do recall one of them saying that you can go too slow as it chars the
material.
Very nice work! would like to see some more as you go along.

Thank you guys for nice comments ;).

I set the depth for 0.042" per pass, yes it give charred edges but this wasn't my concern. Honestly, I didn't even sanded the edges. I was using an 'air assist' witch basically is an air nozzle directing compressed air in to the cut, it does make  difference.. Basically, there appears to be a fine line between the depth of cut, material and feedrate and yes the PWM was cranked wide open, the voltage was steady 4.98v in pin #17. Did experiment and was able to cut paper with .9v going in to laser controler PWM imput (used badly discharged 1.5 AA battery) :D ;D ;D
