Why would someone join a forum if they had no intention of posting a message in it ? especially one like this where files and images can be viewed by guests.
The number of new members seems to have taken off lately.

Maybe same reasoning that led me to get a gym membership one time?  ;)

Yeah, mostly spammers... settings are locked down better now, so looks like it is easing off.
New members now need to get their first post approved and can't edit their profiles until they are approved.

If things look OK, will probably clear out old registrations at some point.

Exactly, but as David once commented they join but do not post.

I like the sound of those new rules and hope they work.

To have the honor of being part (something like Andy's gym) of this fellowship called cambam forum.  But I never need to ask anything because I find the answers before I have the questions.

I suggest that you set notifications on by default, and make sure to post a reply when approving a post so they get a notification. I think this may help relieve some of the frustration of the unknown wait time for a question to be seen.

Another good idea, thanks Bob.  I have pretty much put in place your initial suggestions regarding registration and it seems to working nice!

I have just set the following membership registration flag...
Enable "Allow the administrators to send me important news by email" by default.

I very much like the new look of the updated CB forum.

One thing I've noticed is that this new forum version works with the current Firefox version in using "saved logins and pwds" for automatically populating the forum login just fine but in Google Chrome it is broken.  In Chrome, I can select my saved CB login name from a list but must type in the associated password manually.

Cheers,

I'm also a member on MYCNCUK. A user there (John11668) has tried to join the CamBam forum but has not received the confirmation email after 3 days and several attempts. Can anyone offer advice? Link to the MYCNCUK thread is
