Removing Overlaps creates copy in different layer
« on: June 05, 2020, 00:46:26 am »
Hi,

I have just been using the Remove Overlap feature and reading up on the help to understand how it works. However, I have come across an issue where is creates a copy of the source (Mechanical2) but into a different layer that already exists, the next layer (Mechanical3)  in this case.  Also, I have noticed the the the polygons within this different layer are selected, which makes it easier to create a Machine profile without having to selected them all. What would be great is if Cambam could create a new layer called "Overlaps Removed" with a copy of the source with any deleted overlaps removed. If fact, all features that do modify the original selected layer could do with creating new Layers (Overylays removed, Cleaned, Joined, etc) and not modify the original layer at all - just a thought.

Also, the Join feature does not appear to work on Overlapped entities - they first have to be removed.

I have attached an example but without the Remove overlaps feature performed on Mechanical Layer 2 and would appreciate if someone could have a look please? Has anybody else observed same or similar issues?

Finally, is there a PDF version of the latest Cambam v1.0 available to download? I could only find v0.9.8, downloadable via Google.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Julian

Do you mean the documentation for CamBam 1.0, or the software?  The software is not a .pdf (PDFs are only 'documents'), and is available for download on this site, as is all the documentation for it.

Hello,

I have come across an issue where is creates a copy of the source (Mechanical2) but into a different layer that already exists, the next layer (Mechanical3)

the source polylines are never modified, and the result of remove overlap is a totally new set of polylines that are drawn on the current active layer (the one with the small green arrow). So before to use remove overlap, always creates a blank new layer, or set the layer you want to redirect the result to as active layer.

The latest doc for CamBam is not the PDF that is no longer updated, but the web site.

http://www.cambam.info/doc/dw/1.0.0/contents.html

(this is the same as the one you get with the F1 key in CamBam)
