Newbie starting out - need a kick

Hi. I go by 'zeeprogrammer', 'zee', 'zeep', and 'Carl'. This is my first post here.

I recently got a Sherline lathe and am interested in converting it to CNC.

I have CamBam, Mach3, and for CAD I'm using Cubify Design.
I build a frankensystem that's composed only of power supplies, a Smoothstepper, a Gecko G540 driver, two stepper motors, and an EStop...all mounted on a board.

I'm stuck looking for a lathe example. I came across a reference to "lathe-test.cb" but have been unable to find it.
The documentation says it is in the 'samples' folder but no such thing exists. (Today I downloaded version 1.0.)

Any and all help is appreciated to get me off of square 2. (Square 1 was getting things installed and seeing that I could move the motors.)

Hello

Have a look in C:\ProgramData\CamBam plus 1.0\samples (may be an hidden folder)

You can also find this folder from CamBam Tools menu (browse system folder)

I feel a bit silly. I've used computers for over 40 years but didn't know about the 'ProgramData' folder.

Hi Carl,

Help - View Samples will open up the samples folder.

And a hint for people using CamBam in evaluation mode... dragging sample files from explorer onto the current open CamBam window will open the file without starting a new CamBam session and using up an evaluation counter.

I built my entire system using CamBam's evaluation mode, and felt guilty I hadn't purchased it yet!

I don't often post photos but I recently made these lashing blocks for a friends sailboat.  Note the curved holes through the blocks and around the blocks.  All done with just the simple fixture shown and a couple of ball end mills.

I should have mentioned the casting in the background.  That is a router spindle mount for a large CNC router I am building with the local FIRST robotics team.  A block of extruded styrofoam was first machined using CamBam and was coated it drywall spackle.  Then it was buried in a bucket of sand and molten aluminum poured right into the foam vaporizing it.  I have done four castings for the router, including wheel mounting plates, Z axis slide, Y axis carriage, and a mount for a 4-1/2" grinder to be used with a circular saw blade.  Haven't yet done the final machining on any of them.

Over on our model forum we've been telling Zee to start with the mill first (he has Sherline), as CB is much better suited to mill work.  Perhaps the team here can chime in.
