It's the Engrave you want not lathe.

This video looks like what you need.
As the wheel turns the tool will follow that line in X and Z

Because he had made an effort to learn CamBam.  I am still well behind David in this aspect.

Here is a shot of my CamBam plugin folder with the plugins I use to speed up my work and make it easier.

I don't rotate the line, I rotate the display ;) (hold down alt key then use the mouse + hold down left click)
