Fagor Control
« on: January 21, 2021, 23:57:47 pm »
Is their a Fagor control post processor?

I was looking at a Vectrax 10x54 knee mill with a Fagor Control.  I asked a few questions and one of the guys at MSC sent me a copy of the manual.  I noticed that many of the codes are substantially different than the ones I am used to working with Mach 3, LinuxCNC, and Path Pilot.  I have done some minor tweaking of post processors (mostly brute force stuff), but this looks like a redefinition of several of the codes.   The most basic stuff is the same, but some is quite different.

It probably doesn't matter.  The only reason I was looking is the machine is on sale for almost $10K off regular price.  Of course its sold out and on back order already.  LOL.  Its still nearly $30K.

I'd love to pull the radiator cap off the Hurco, back it out from under the cap, and roll a new knee mill in under it.

Having run a Fadal 4020 VMC, a CNC knee mill, a Servo 5000 bed mill, and my home built light duty bed style mill, there is no way I’d get another knee mill.  You waste way to much time screwing around with Z axis stroke issues. The Z on my homebuilt is 18” which is just enough.

Today I noticed that Automation Direct now sell linear ballscrew slides similar to the THK linear slides on my machine. The price is $2800 per axis, I bought 4 new in the box for $1200 total on Ebay when the solar industry was collapsing! The fourth is a shelf spare which I am happy to have!

A big knee mill definitely can do things that are impractical on many other machines.  I know I have one.  If I were to replace it with a new one I wouldn't just forklift my bed mills into the dumpster either.
