Profile - Can I clean up a roughing cut in the final cut

If I have 5 depth steps to my final depth can I set an roughing offset of 0.2mm then the final cut at 0.0 depth but clean up the 0.2mm offset to give a uniform finish on the wall ?

I do this quite often, use a Pocket or Profile MOP with steps and a roughing clearance, then finish with a Profile MOP at full depth to remove the clearance material.
Going to full depth for the final cut is the key to removing marks from the wall, sometimes 0.2mm is not enough in wood for example as the cutting marks can "telegraph" deeper than you think.

There's an adage on this forum coined by Lloyd I believe, it goes, "MOPs are free" so use as many as you need.

So in this case, is the roughing function being used or just generating a separate MOP that cuts to a roughing dimension followed by a full depth MOP?

I use the roughing /finish option as a note to self.
it is the mop that does the work you set a roughing offset on the first mop and final size and depth on the next mop.I used two pockets for the demo but a pocket followed by a profile  can be used.

The "Roughing / Finishing" setting I never use because as David said it does nothing except with a 3D or Lathe MOP, from the manual "Currently only supported by 3D Profile and Lathe machining operations. "

But the important thing is, it has nothing to do with "Roughing Clearance" and it does nothing in the background, unless of course you are using a 3D or Lathe MOP.
In addition,  "Roughing Clearance" still works the same regardless of the "Roughing/Finishing" setting.

So, use two MOPs as described earlier, and if it helps you, set the Roughing/Finishing flags as driedeker said but regard it as a visual reminder only.

OK that's how I originally understood it.

For me, the simplest thing to do is what Gary suggested in the previously linked thread, that being use the same tool path but over state the diameter of the cutting for roughing by twice the desired finish stock cut depth, then use an identical MOP at full height cut with correct diameter cutter designated. To keep them straight name one roughing and the other finish and insure they are ordered properly. Even though the program will think so, no tool change will be required.

What's wrong with using Roughing Clearance for the first MOP ?

If you look at the gcode CamBam will not request a toolchange if the next tool is the same number.

OK, I obviously haven't tried it for 2D cutting but I'm confused because of this:

I thought that meant it wasn't active or available for anything but 3D Profile and Lathe.  ?
