Hello Andy! Do you take requests?
« on: September 13, 2021, 19:23:51 pm »
I was wondering if in your next update you could include another option to the "Lathe cut direction" to include "both"? Most of the time I cut in both directions to save time. The standard is to go to the right end of the part, go into cutting depth, cut along Z toward the chuck until the desired spot is reached, pull out to rapid height, and return to the right end of the part for another bite. What I do is when I reach the desired spot, I plunge into the part for another bite, and then cut away from the chuck until I get to the right end. Then I plunge to the next height and cut some more. I will include an example of what I am trying to do. If this could become an option it would eliminate a lot of editing. This method of cutting turns a 6 minute part into a 3 minute, 20 second part.

Thanks for listening.
Steve

Steve,

I've never used the lathe mop but can this be done by having a different mop for each one of those operations. It would require a few polylines to define the paths but direction could then be chosen for each path.

It probably could but would be a lot of work. I have been doing 95% of my lathe code in mach4 editor by hand. Makes it easy to test that way. I just cut and paste the back and fourths and edit the x position. Doesn't take long. Just would be a nice option and a huge time saver when able to be used.

I have very limited experience but if it is a roughing MOP copy/paste and edit by hand seems to be the faster method (as Steve does) than copy/paste/set parameters for numerous MOPs in CamBam.
If it is a finishing pass or a pair of passes which follow the final shape then maybe your suggested method will do.

Possible - yes.
User friendly - No.

If I had a lathe, I would definitely ask for that, too !

Improvements are not forbidden !  ;D
best regards

Just to be clear the lathe options that are in Cambam work very well. I have used them many times over the years and it has all gone very good.
