Hello

Copying and pasting circles and having them snap to a grid intersection is exactly how I create drilling layouts in Cambam

To distribute shape(s) on a point list, you can use this plugin

So the best way might be to create a grid then manually add points to the required intersections by way of one pointlist.
Now use the plugin David linked to and copy a circle to all the others.

Keep the grid and pointlist on one layer, put the circles on another. That way is allows for the grid and pointlist layer to be locked and/or hidden once the circles have been copied.

The PseudoGrid plugin could be used to easily generate the grid, just do not check the Pointlist checkbox.

yes, I know how the grid works in Cambam
That's how I have been doing it for many years

I am talking about snapping my copied circles onto the grids made by the new tools, not the Cambam grid

CNTRL-C / copy a circle
CNTRL-V / paste a circle
Shift + arrow keys to move the circles and snap to adjoining grid intersections

You cannot snap onto the grid intersections made by the new grid tools using the method above

I can't understand why such a seemingly simple task is taking so much effort to sort out.

Yes and so am I

Forget that for now

No you can't but you can if you there is a point at each intersection and you use the SHIFT + mouse drag method which is faster.

Or use the method David suggested about copying a circle to each point in a pointlist in one go with his plugin.

You can also use the nummove plugin with the "step" mode = grid value and the "copy" box checked.

David,

I thought about that, but if the X and Y spacings were different then the value would need changing.

With Cambam grid snap turned off
Shift plus mouse drag does not snap onto the custom grids
The circle is free to roam anywhere while dragging

If you turn on grid snap in Cambam, it will then snap onto the Cambam grid, not the custom grid.

Too bad you can't get access to Cambam's grid and store the custom grid data within the program

Well on my setup the circle definitely snaps to the points on the intersections, if there is a point there of course.
It sounds to me like you either have not put points on the intersections, you are not selecting the centre of the circle before dragging, or "snap to object" is not enabled.

That's no problem but there is no facility to store different settings for X and Y

I can't understand why such a seemingly simple task is taking so much effort to sort out.

Me too :)

As I said before, I've never used grid. There are other ways to position, duplicate, align and move objects.
With the help of (but not limited to):
'Num Move' plugin.
'Aligner' plugin.
'Snappy' plugin.
And with the 'Show extremas' plugin it's very convenient to check where an object lies.

So is the Cambam Code not available from Andy.
Has he stopped development?

I think he did it in VB.net
I program in VB.net using MS Visual studio
