Not Gonna! Can't Make Me! Nope! Nope! Nope!
« on: December 21, 2021, 21:17:26 pm »
I'm going to make a few of these.

Here are some questions for your amusement, but first for the clever or educated among you it is NOT an abstract for demonstration of economic or financial principles.

What is it?

How is it used?

What do I not have to do according to the title?

If I have the time I'll be glad to show you a little in my shop.

Ok... here is a hint.  The diameter of the hole is not particularly important.

Well, having considerable experience building 'pressing molds' for pyrotechnic compositions, I'd presume it's a two-part mold for pressing or casting something in the combined cavities.  As I see the design, the two parts are designed to be 'stacked'.

Then, after pressing or casting, I'd guess one or the other is extracted, and the molded part is pushed out of the other cavity.

I guess it could be also used to house a paper or composite tube, into which material is pressed.

'Just a guess!

It's just used as a single accessory. I showed two of them to make sure that anybody looking can see all of the key features.

I am pretty sure that we have discussed the principle applied using the accessory on this group before.

I have to admit I'm very very disappointed. Let's restate the questions.

What is it?

How is it used?

What do I not have to do according to the title?

So far the best answers have been along the lines of:

"How do you change a tire?"
"Uh, remove the lug nuts?"

Tool to allow you to pick up a corner and maybe even Z height using a touch probe or dial indicator.  If that is what it is,  I need to make something similar for the CNC router I am building with the high school FIRST robotics team. It is fully enclosed and has safety switches on all the doors so I’d like to be able to do it with the actual tool they are going to use. This could work it seems.

Gary has the closest answer.  It allows you to pick up a corner with a probe.  The size of the hole doesn't matter.  You just have to know its offset to the stops from its center.  Of course if you have a probe that is in tram on that machine, and the functional diameter (usually not exactly the same as the physical diameter) of the probe has been determined you can touch off the edges, but this tool will allow you to use the 180 degree method to locate the corner with a bad, out of tram, or cheap untrammable probe.

Hook the tool on the corner of the work piece.  Probe the circle to find center.  Rotate the probe 180 degrees and probe again.  Split the difference.  You now know your offset to the corner of the stock.
