New Linux User
« on: December 31, 2021, 17:45:27 pm »
Hi ALL, and Happy New Year 2022.

Decided to jump into Linux in my laptop and installed CB. Everything seems to went OK, except for one message " Cannot load the configuration file!". Is there way for me to point CB to the configuration files? Thanks.
My 2¢

Win11, CB(1.0)rc 1(64 bit) Mach3, ESS, G540, 4th Axis, Endurance Laser.

The configuration file should be in the directory CamBam plus 1.0 inside  the  hidden directory .conf in your Home directory.

During the installation you should put this directory in the right location: ~/.config/ as described in the step 2 in the installation guide.

Good work, enjoy linux and

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

If you copied the config file from another place then it may not be owned by you as the current Linux user.
See attached pic how to check who the owner is. In my case it's me - Ivan.

Thanks Ivan. Here is screenshot of my configuration/permissions settings.  It all looks good as far as I can tell. One thing I failed to point out.. I did have one helluva time to download the "CamBam 1.0-mono-rc3-ubuntu 18.tgz" package. Possibly corrupted. Tried again, and just cant download it. Using chrome browser. Thanks.

If the downloaded package is corrupted it will not unpack.
One other thing is how you start CamBam. It must be done with a shell script 'cambam.sh'.
Here's the content of my start script.
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash
cd ~/CamBam1.0
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$(pwd)"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
mono --verify-all CamBam.exe $1

Yes, cambam.sc is used to start CB. Interesting, after removing 'plugin' folder it starts. Now need to find out offending plugin. I think, I created the problem myself when copy/paste plugins from my windows machine...  :D ;D ::)

Extract the plugin folder from the archive with the original content. Make sure CB is running OK. Then start adding plugins. :)

BTW, I am still on Ubuntu 18.04 and have frozen Mono installation to version 5.12. Newer versions do funny things with fonts sizes in the built-in menus.

Bubba,

Please be sure to let us know which plugin or plugins caused this.

In process of testing.
So far the Unroll, CamBamMM, DimArrow. dll plugins CB complained about. What I discovered next is puzzling, tried to draw a rectangle as soon as completed  CB without prompt displayed 'file save' box. Clicking yes/no shuts CB down.. ??? The plugins panel will not show complete list and the plugins are not in alphabetical order.

David

At this point, if you feel this is not in right place please move it.  ;D

Yes, I also have occasional shut down messages. If you press 'Cancel' CB continues to work but I prefer restarting it.
So far I am strongly convinced it is connected to Mono. But can't tell why.
BTW, you should manually install the VB library for mono in order to get David's plugins to work. It is not installed by default even if one installs 'mono-complete' package.

So far all David's plugins work except for those mentioned in previous post. The reason I was calling on David to move this post because possibly is not CB but Linux related it issues..
Cheers.

Reporting back. After digging some more I have found more plugins that were causing CB not work behave normally. Those plugins (see attachment) caused 'cannot find configuration file' pop up at start up of CB, then when clicking on the plugin panel CB shuts down. There used to be issue with after drawing anything CB just shut down.  With out those plugins all is well, CB behaves normally.. When installing plugins keep in mind, in Linux apparently there is limit how many it can display, to many, will cause behavior mentioned above. In widows 10 there is not a such issue.
