Hey Andy, What can we do?
« on: March 28, 2023, 18:35:59 pm »
I wasn't all that impressed with CamBam when I first tried it, but its grown on me.  Its a daily use tool in my shop now.  I've recommended it many times over the years and I know for a fact there are some who bought a license based on my recommendation.  They told me so.

What can we do to get you interested in working on it a bit more?

We all have features we would like to have, and of course some are addressed by user written plug-ins, but some stuff can only be done at the source level.

To be frank with the long list of bugs a major bug fix release would be a huge step forward for me.  Calculation errors (some quite serious) and creating tool paths that destroy parts or tools in large step over finishes or an operation with a max crossover smaller than the step over is a big deal for me personally, but there is a long list of bugs.  A bug fix release or maybe a series of small bug fix releases would do a lot for the future of CamBam in my opinion.

What can we do?
Getting started on CNC?  In or passing through my area?
If I have the time I'll be glad to show you a little in my shop.

No comments from other users here, I guess many are afraid to visit the forum because of the certificate issues.

Frankly speaking, I was not impressed by what Andy demonstrated in the video to which Eddy posted a link here. But everyone has the right to choose what to do and what not to do.
I have the feeling of being somewhat betrayed.
And can't explain to myself why, after so much effort and labour had been put into making CamBam a working program, with great potential for expansion and automation, it seems to be abandoned.

To be fair CamBam is a rather complex program.  It may simply be that there is to much for one person to go back through and fix.

It can also be tough to compete with drug dealers like AutoDesk/Fusion360.

I admit I have been looking at other solutions.  Not because I do not want to continue to work with CamBam.  I like the work flow (generally) with CamBam and I have found functional if time consuming work arounds to some of the most egregious bugs.  I'd just like to see those bugs fixed so I don't have to spend dozens if not hundreds of hours over ensuing years working around them.  I am used to the CamBam, and it does a lot of what I need it to.  I'm sure I would continue to complain about features it doesn't have, but a comprehensive set of bug fixes would be HUGE.

You know it wasn't all that long ago when most information websites didn't use a security certificate at all.  Even my shopping cart only handed off to a secure server for payment processing.
