Lloyd,

You sound very indecisive, if he was my son I'd be kicking his arse and getting him sorted out, maybe it's a UK vs USA thing ?

Lloyd,

I'm sorry if I sounded harsh but I had a hard lesson when my mother died in hospital with heart problems.
It was mentioned that she smoked cigarettes and I got the message that "she should have helped herself" in the first instance by giving them up.
Rather than just leaving her there I should have taken a more active role in getting them to be more interested to try harder and save her.
I said it would not happen again in a similar situation.

Happy to hear you son is improving.

About herbals, even high doses of persil could be toxic!

Sadly many people thinks that if they are not "chemicals" they are not dangerous, sadly, most of posion are "natural things".

Probably the "anti anxiety" drug is the way.

Maybe with some "other assistance" (a good therapist, or some "coaching groups") but usually this could not be an "imposed choice", probably it needs some "moral suasion" and "much love" as these sort of things are not as easy as they may appear.

I have had some relative with this genre of problems, and it is a long and hard path.

Carlo, I certainly agree with that.  There's no way you can force a person to receive psychiatric assistance, unless they've committed a crime, and are in jail or prison!  And even then, you cannot force them to accept the therapy, only to 'submit' to it.

We'll work with him.  I think this episode may have frightened him enough to seek 'outside help', instead of all the herbals he's been taking.

I hope his health improves. This is a taxing situation for everyone involved.
