Hello,

after the confirmed purchase of a CB licence more than two days ago I did neither receive a licence key nor any other feedback.
As the website says something like "up to 24h", should I worry or just keep on waiting?

There is no mail stuck in spam (checked) and I received the confirmation mail pretty fast.

I did also ask by the contact form, without a reply.

From what I read, I'd expect it not to take more than some hours. Maybe I am just impatient?

If this may help, my order ID is HEX220725-1663-51126

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Nic

Yes, order received the 25/07/2022 at 15:17 (French hour)

Currently your license has not yet been generated/sent by Andy.

I think he's on vacation, please wait a bit, it shouldn't take long.

I have had a look, and no message on support received currently from you.

I have to say this since nobody else will.  This is very concerning.  More concerning than the rare updates to the root software.  We have been told that work is being done and bug fixes are in the works, but having difficulty receiving the ownership key after paying for a license brings into question how much work is being done and how much attention is being paid to the users of the software.

I'm a big fan of the software and I happen to have paid for two license keys just to show my support, but I am growing concerned that except for user plugins it may be approaching end of life.  That many of the bugs that have been documented (some I documented myself) will never be fixed and that I will always have to do extra work get work around them to get decent results.

This concerns me more than you might think.  I use CamBam every day to create projects for my day job.  Its good software in many ways, and its very affordable.  I have come to depend on it, but I do not think its as good as it should be.  Even a comprehensive bug fix edition would be a huge step towards improved productivity.  Each time (this is not the first) I see somebody commenting about not receiving their license file in a timely manner this thought is reawakened with me.
Getting started on CNC?  In or passing through my area?
If I have the time I'll be glad to show you a little in my shop.

I have to bitterly admit that I share Bob's opinion.

Hello

I can't talk about Cambam release, but I can said, because I see the orders received and the licenses sent, that Andy send licenses habitually in some hours after the order is received, almost every days even the WE, the problem with licenses is not that they are no been sent but it is that something block the mails that have an attachment (on the receiver side)

PS: the case of cbcnc is not the only one, currently no license was been sent since Monday 25/7 at 9:20

Hi all,

I would really regret if my question would make Andy being less motivated to continue his software in the end.

IMHO, CB is a very helpful software filling a gap between very complex systems like linuxCNC and semiprofessional software snippets. Though it allows for many functions and AFAIK works very reliable, it is rather easy to use.
Also, what I really like is the fact that is available on linux machines which still often is not the case in professional software.

I really admire anyone who is continuously working on a complex software alone, which seems to be the case here, if I understood correctly. The risk of being frustrated by a lot of requests and critics combined with limited positive feedback or in many cases even insufficient financial support led to the end of many good software projects in the past, if they were not being supported by a big company.

From my point of view, it is also ok if I have to wait for a licence for one week or so. If I order materials, it sometimes can take weeks or even months to receive them, and nobody seems to care.

I was just confused by the information on the website and the comments on the net suggesting that it takes few hours, 24 in maximum.
Here, a short note in the shop or mail system would be very much appreciated that gives a hint in case of holidays or similar.
Similarly, it would be nice to have an automatic feedback mail for messages from the web form (which might be announced there), as the fact that seemingly sometimes mails are being lost there of course is somewhat irritating.
But all of this should not question the general usefulness or applicability of CB, IMHO.
I'm still looking forward to my license and will be happy to receive it.

That think that annoys me how unreliable Andy has become. In the past, I have recommended this software to anyone, not anymore, because of this scenarios being repeated. Disappointing thing though, that Andy won't openly come out and say he no longer support this operation and leaving people hanging, wondering what's next..

Sad..

Well, David has done a remarkable job of day-to-day support.  Perhaps, if Andy wishes to abandon the project (of which, I'm not sure, yet), he could turn over the code to David.

David has been 'always here' and energetic in his efforts.  I'm sure he'd do the same if supporting the code.

100% Agree.

Really, this thing would die long time a go if David would not be here supporting it.

Don't worry, the project is not abandoned at all, but I can't said more currently. But I agree that Andy is not the king of communication  ;D

Don't underestimate your skills.  'Exposure' to the source-code of software is the first step to becoming competent-enough to maintain it.

Besides, you have a bunch of folks here skilled in various programming languages who could help nudge you onward, as you explored it.  You would not be 'alone' in such a project.

I hope you're right about Andy's commitment to this software.  But if not, don't rule-out your becoming the next caretaker of it!

I'm out for the moment as my hobby CNC is broken and family matters are making the repairs delayed (hope not forever).

But if Andy will abandon the project and make sources "opensource"  there is around a big community that could step in and help to improve the project, seeing the way most of the CAD and CAM suppliers are passing to "pay per use" license scheme.

I'm somewhat involved in FreeCAD and this time, there is a bunch of users that are searching alternatives for the reason above.

Hello,

thank you for your warm welcome and your support!

I received it correctly.
And I do already like the caring community :-)
